what i'm working on now:

in data collection and writing phase

how do the ways people conceptualize the role of social media algorithms affect their behavior online? using theories of emerging media and anthropology, this study will deliver a survey and also build on the theory of algorithmic folk theorization.

revising before resubmitting for publication

is there a relationship between people's ideologies, their trust in the media, and their rates of political participation? this analysis of the American National Election Studies dataset will attempt to illuminate this idea.

what is dehumanization in the media and its opposite? can we teach journalism students to identify and operationalize these concepts? this forthcoming paper will connect journalism practice and pedagogy to these ideas.

this externally funded study involved an analysis of insurance data as well as multiple semi-structured interviews to understand the policy landscape affecting pregnant and postpartum people who need medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid-use disorde (OUD).

this externally funded study involved semi-structured interviews with individuals just finishing the residency application process to better understand potential intervention points to increase the diversity and inclusivity of plastic surgery residency programs.

this study aimed to understand how rhetorics developed across health departments as they developed public safety advisories around marijuana usage. this study is on hiatus until funding and potential collaborators are secured.

this study aimed to understand the ways in which asian americans think about organ donation to better understand pain points preventing them from registering to donate or agreeing to donate a family member's organs. i conducted qualitative analysis on 30+ interviews while working as a staff research assistant. to my knowledge, this study has not been published.

this work, conducted as part of my masters thesis, modeled the mortality and morbidity among prisoners in texas due to heat over multiple decades using weather data from NOAA and health data from the Texas Tribune.

this work was conceptualized while working at a rural health department. the project gained external federal funding to teach local highschoolers concepts in epidemiology and public health, and empower them to study their own comumunity and present ideas to county leadership.
